Fusion reactors are not yet operational, but there are several around the world for experimental and research purposes. One example is the Joint European Torus (JET) tokamak fusion reactor in the United Kingdom. A tokamak fusion reactor features a torus, which is a doughnut-shaped vacuum chamber. Inside the torus, gaseous forms of hydrogen, specifically deuterium and tritium, are subjected to extreme pressures and temperatures to become plasma. The torus also uses a strong magnetic field to confine the plasma (TWI Global, 2023).
